McMenon delivers first-ever 3” McMenon Averaging Pitot Tube for high-temperature stack application

Faced with extreme operating conditions and a critical failure of an existing probe, our client turned to McMenon to develop a bespoke, high-integrity solution.

The challenge: Flow measurement at SRU Tail Gas Incinerators

In Sulfur Recovery Units (SRUs), tail gas incinerators play a vital role in environmental control by oxidising sulfur compounds into SO₂ and SO₃ at temperatures ranging from 850°C to 950°C. It’s a harsh environment, and one that regularly defeats standard measurement devices.

When the installed probe at one of our client’s sites in Qatar was deformed beyond recognition, it was clear a more robust solution was needed. Standard probes simply couldn’t withstand the temperature and stress within the incinerator system.

The McMenon solution: 3” MAPT, built to withstand extremes

We engineered and delivered a 3” McMenon Averaging Pitot Tube (Torbar), specifically designed for stack flow measurement in a 162” duct. Manufactured from Inconel 625, the probe offers exceptional resistance to both high temperatures and corrosive environments, ensuring stable and accurate flow measurement over time.

Every detail, from material selection to mechanical strength, was considered to deliver a solution that’s fit for purpose, safe, and reliable under prolonged thermal stress.
