Inspiring the Next Generation: Girls in Engineering Day at McMenon

In November 2025, we were proud to welcome over 20 young female students from schools across West Cumbria to McMenon Engineering for our Girls in Engineering Day. Students joined us from Energy Coast UTC, St Benedict’s, and Workington Academy, all keen to explore what a future in engineering could look like.

The day began with a welcome from our CEO, Anand Puthran, who introduced the students to McMenon and shared insights into how engineering, innovation, and technology shape the world around us. Anand also spoke about the practical applications of AI for both students and businesses, highlighting how curiosity, evolving questions, and immersive learning can unlock endless possibilities.

Students then heard from members of our McMenon team across Sales, Planning, Engineering, and Quality, gaining valuable insight into how different roles work together to bring our products from concept to completion. These sessions helped showcase the wide variety of career paths available within engineering beyond traditional perceptions.

We were also honoured to welcome Hannah Thompson, Operations Director at Assystem and Non-Executive Director at Eadon Consulting. Hannah shared her personal career journey, offering inspiring and practical insights into building a successful career in engineering.

The day concluded with hands-on experiences across our Production, Machining, and Welding departments, giving students a real opportunity to see engineering in action and understand how ideas are turned into tangible products.

It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the day. At McMenon, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation and showing that engineering offers exciting, rewarding careers for everyone.

A huge thank you to all the schools and teachers involved, to Hannah Thompson for sharing her experience, and to our McMenon team who helped make the day such a success.
